Patiently Waiting, Wisdom Coming: A Mini-Meditation Retreat on the Power of Patience

Waiting is hard. Whether it's waiting in line, waiting to receive news, waiting for someone to make up their mind, waiting for something to give or change, waiting your turn, or waiting to heal.

Throughout our lives, there will be numerous times when we need to practice waiting. When we find ourselves in situations where we are forced to wait, we often fall into familiar patterns of thought. Sometimes we get aggravated, uptight, angry, or we think we're just wasting our lives, waiting for a new chapter to begin so that our lives can really start. Other times, when our longing becomes too uncomfortable or unbearable, we choose to check out for a time and numb ourselves to the pain by turning to our phones and endlessly scrolling, or through disengaging into meaningless or even unhealthy activities and behaviors.

The question is, what kind of mind do you possess while waiting?

Buddha teaches us that one of the most important virtues we need to cultivate on our spiritual journey is patience. In his book The New Eight Steps to Happiness, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso says "A person with no patience has no stability of mind and is upset by the slightest obstacle or criticism. In contrast, when we develop real patience, our mind will be stable as a mountain and as calm as the depths of the ocean."

Join us for this mini-meditation retreat with guest teacher Kerrin Perniciaro as we begin to learn how to develop patience and wisdom in our daily lives through three short, guided meditation sessions. Everyone can benefit from this timeless advice. There will be breaks in-between sessions and time for questions at the end. Everyone is welcome.
