ON-GOING WEEKLY CLASSES IN PORT JEFFERSON
We are open—Happy Father’s Day!
A Mind You Can Trust: with Christine Chase, Sunday 10:00-11:00am
“When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and our mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment naturally arises from within.” The New Meditation Handbook.
When our mind is calm, our problems feel smaller. When our mind is disturbed or anxious, small difficulties feel overwhelming. Meditation offers us a way to step back, breathe, and feel better—right now. Through guided meditation, a short teaching, and time for discussion each week we will focus on a different topic—the preciousness of our human life, impermanence, how to let go of anger, how to develop real love and compassion—thereby learning how to reduce negative thoughts, deepen our inner peace, and respond to life with wisdom and strength.

Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully
Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully : Howie Geismar, Monday noon-1:00pm
Buddhism teaches us how to live a meaningful life and attain lasting happiness by cultivating a peaceful mind, a good heart and wisdom.. But it also addresses our daily experiences of difficulties and suffering throughout this life and in life after life. We feel there is no escape from the sufferings of birth, sickness, aging, death and all our daily problems. However, through exploring Buddhist wisdom about death and dying we develop an awareness of our own mortality that totally enriches and transforms our human life into one of great meaning and joy. By contemplating Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's book Living Meaningfully, Dying Joyfully we will both attain practical advice on how to help those who are dying and also learn how to make our own death a meaningful experience
Getting Out of My Own Way
Getting Out of My Own Way: Ilene Hecht, Tuesday 6:00-7:00pm
We all have wishes—to be happier, more patient, less judgmental. But sometimes it feels something is blocking our way. According to Buddha’s teachings, we all have extraordinary potential: our negative habits and discouraging thoughts don’t define us—they’re just obstacles in our mind that we can learn to remove. Through engaging in meditation and hearing Buddha’s practical wisdom we can train to let go of our inner obstructions and move toward the life we truly wish for —one based on clarity, confidence and inner peace.
Stop Spiraling, Start Breathing
Stop Spiraling, Start Breathing: Joanna Zalewski, Thursday 7:00-8:00pm
In challenging times, our thoughts can quickly spiral into anxiety, frustration, or even hopelessness. Buddha’s teachings offer us a powerful alternative: by training in meditation, we learn to recognize unhelpful mental habits and replace them with realistic, peaceful minds. Through exploring practical methods from Kadampa Buddhism we will learn to develop a more stable, balanced, and positive state of mind — no matter what is happening around u
